Documentary film, made possible by the French fur company Révillon Frères , and based on Flaherty's experiences in the years 1912-1919. Relates the story of an Eskimo family pitting their strength against a vast and inhospitable Arctic. The film is generally regarded as the work from which all subsequent efforts to bring real life to the screen have stemmed.
